Volnay-Santenots 1er Cru Gauvain – en primeur
Hospices de Beaune 2021
Gauvain
A solid wine from an iconic village. Classic Pinot Noir in major mode.
Tasting notes
2021 is a 'back to basics' year, with harvest end of September. Consequence: beatiful acidities that sustain the finesse of our Pinot Noir. The nose is generous yet ethereal, with a wide array of fruity and floral aromas. The palate shows a gorgeous texture, true to its status and terroir. Remarkable length. A wine of great nobility and elegance. A future classic with great potential in your cellar.
Wine & food pairings - cellaring potential
The intensity of this wine will match a coq-au-vin, a beef stew of a beautiful T-bone steak.
History
Bernard Gauvain is one of the Hospices’ most generous benefactors, who left all his worldly goods to the Hospice de la Charité in 1804. The wines coming from its Volnay-Santenots hillsides constitute one of the greatest glories of the Hospices de Beaune. Often amongst the first to ripen, the vines give wines which are rich, complex, elegant and long.
